A Study on the Lysozyme from the Urine of Transplanted Kidney

Abstract
For the sake of evaluation of rejection phenomenon of renal homograft lysozyme activity was assayed in the urine from the kidneys with normal, autotransplantaticn and homotransplantation respectively in 39 dogs.
Healthy dogs weighing more than 12 kg were used in this study with no regard to sex. The animals were divided into 3 groups,
Group 1.: Control
Group 2.: Renal autotransplantation
Group 3.: Renal homotransplantation
The group of renal homotransplantation was divided into 2 subgroups, one non-Imuran-treated and the other Imuran-treated.
For the Imuran-treated group of renal homotranspiantation 5 mg/kg of Imuran daily had been given from the day before operation.
Lysozyme activity was estimated in the urine from the control, renal autograft and renal homografts (Non-Imuran-treated and Imuran-treated respectively) as well as the bladder urine that was drained from the intact right kidney.
The summary of this study is as follows.
1. Lysozyme activity elevation was found to be slight in the urine of autotransplanted kidney and marked in that of homotransplanted kidney as compared to moderate elevation in that of Imuran treated kidneys.
2. Lysozyme activity elevation in the urine of the homotransplanted kidney was found to be roughly consistent with the degree of pathological change of transplanted kidney. For the sake of detection of rejection phenomenon in the homotransplanted kidney urinary lysozyme
activity assay was found to be valuable.
